Poetry Corner

Wolfgang Glinka gave his first poetry reading on Friday, September 7 at 2 pm SLT. He read many of his own poetry, and also had other people up to read their own. It was quite a fun experience.

It will happen every Friday at 2 pm!

Mini Dance with DJ LLedge!

The Umami Sim at LEA 16 hosted its first Mini-Dance party, featuring DJ Lledge with host Justin Arabello. It went off (really!) without a hitch, and everybody had a great time. The Sway and Dance Troupe backed up LLedge on a group of dance sets from shows presented over the last year. There will be more Mini Dances coming up, and it should be fun! We will have a range of DJs, including, DJ Rober, DJ Karl, and DJ LLedge!

The Umami Sim

Although “umami” is defined as a savory flavor, as found in broth, soy sauce or mushrooms, I am using it to mean “all purpose”; i.e., an all-encompassing taste that binds all things together.

With this Sim, dance, sculpture, music, and poetry are combined into one, taking advantage of all the tools (well, most) available in Second Life. Umami needs all components to be successful, and this is our goal with the Sim. The tongue-twisting German word “Gesamtkunstwerk”, first introduced to the world by the philosopher K. F. E. Trandorff in the 19th century, is of the same idea; the combination of the arts into a complete whole.

Although the sets could have been giant-sized, we chose to create on a human scale; The areas are designed to allow the visitor to wander through each piece, interact with it if he or she so chooses, and, in an actual performance, watch and listen.

Our Sim.

The focus of the Sim, at the meeting of the roads, is Umami, an interactive area of colors and lights; where one can dance on the cubes as they tumble and careen across the reflective pool.

O(Fly On).

O (Fly On) is dance set representing lightness of being. The colors and the effects are chosen for this reason.

Poet’s Corner.

At the Poet’s Corner, you will be able to come by and listen to poems, old and modern, read by our resident poet, Wolfgang Glinka. The Sway and Dance Troupe will be involved in a few of them as well, dancing with the words of the lines. The beautiful coloured walls and floors are from SL artist Treacle Darlandes.

Heath. The heath is the circular area on the hill in the corner. A work designed by Fuschia Nightfire, this is being used to present a circular dance by the Sway and Dance Troupe.

Ballet Heath

On the Hill overlooking the entire sim is our Ballet Heath. A work designed by Fuschia Nightfire, It has been converted into a set for a carefully choreographed dance. Be sure to be there for this one.

Mini Dances

This area has been set aside for our mini-dances; We will be presenting a DJ with our shows, along with the Sway and Dance Troupe. You are welcome to join in for an evening of dance and fun with the troupe as our DJ presents the latest tunes.

The Particle Room.

The Particle Room has been specially designed by Boris Twist, and, with the Sway and Dance Troupe, presents an evening of music and dance with a beautiful particle show, all created by Mr Twist. These shows will be announced in advance.
